Why Provenance Beats Price in Himalayan Sourcing

February 1, 2026  ·  Himalayan Region

For buyers who measure value in traceability, the mountain's harvest is a different order of ingredient. Here is how we document every consignment to a named village and a named hand.

There is an altitude at which the ordinary stops growing. Above it, in the thin, unhurried air of the Uttarakhand Himalaya, a different order of ingredient takes shape — slower, denser, more alive. For the buyers we work with, that difference is not a marketing line; it is the whole basis of value.

Every consignment, a named village

We do not trade a commodity. Every batch we ship is documented and accountable, traceable to a named village and, for craft, to the woman who made the piece. Our sea buckthorn is gathered berry by berry between two-and-a-half and three-and-a-half thousand metres by women who read these slopes and know which ridge ripens first.

What documentation actually means

  • Batch references on every consignment, tied to origin and harvest window.
  • Certificates of origin for craft and GI-tagged work, signed and attributed.
  • Restraint over extraction — wild-gathered botanicals are foraged under community custom, rotational and never to excess, so the resource and the tradition both survive.

Why it matters to a serious buyer

Provenance without proof is only a story. When a house measures value in traceability rather than the lowest unit price, documentation is the product as much as the powder or the oil. It is how the value of the mountain returns to the people of the mountain — and how a buyer can stand behind every claim they carry to their own market.

The mountain does not negotiate its quality. Neither do we.

If you would like to evaluate a line for your own portfolio, a sample can be dispatched under a slip recording SKU, batch and quantity. Reserve value is discussed privately on application.
