A hill village is a place where people live and work, and a visit begins with them. This short photo essay shows children from a village in Uttarakhand. The photographs were taken with the permission of their guardians. We do not name the children, and nobody pictured endorses any product.
Why we show faces
Our wholesale supply comes through women-led Self-Help Groups in the Kumaon and Garhwal hills, and our visitors' programmes run inside those same villages. It would be odd to describe the work without showing who lives there. Read how our sourcing is organised and how a farm visit works.
How we photograph, and how guests should
- Permission first. We photographed these children with their guardians' permission. Our guidance to guests is the same: ask before photographing anyone, and ask a parent or guardian first for a child.
- No names, no locations. We do not publish children's names or the exact village.
- Removal on request. If you or your child appears here and you want a photograph removed, write to office@himalayanregion.com with the page address and we will take it down.
Our guide to visiting a village responsibly has more on photography, waste, water and customs.
Visiting
If you would like to meet the villages in person, start with our agro-tourism page. Programmes are planned for the season and host availability, and confirmed in writing.
