"Nettle" can mean a dried leaf for tea, a seed for a blend or an oil for formulation. They have different minimums, packs and paperwork. This guide compares the three forms in our nettle range so you can pick the right one before requesting a quote.

These come from our product pages for nettle leaves, nettle seed and nettle oil. The processing for seed and oil, and the oil profile, are confirmed per batch. Typical lead times are 1 to 2 weeks for ready stock, 2 to 4 weeks packed to order and 4 to 6 weeks for private label, from order confirmation and before sea freight. The quotation is what binds.
Which one for which product
- Leaf suits herbal tea blends and as a raw material for capsules or extracts.
- Seed is listed for food and botanical blends.
- Oil is listed for cosmetic, haircare and wellness formulations.
This is a starting point. Your formulator and your local regulator decide what is permitted in your market and what you may say on a label.
Species and names
Many plants are called "Himalayan nettle". A general reference describes Girardinia diversifolia, known in Nepal as allo, as a Himalayan nettle whose stems yield a strong bast fibre used for clothing, bags and rope. The stinging hairs on the leaves can cause a painful rash lasting a week or more. See Girardinia diversifolia. Our listings do not state which species the leaf, seed and oil come from, so ask for the botanical name and the certificate in writing, particularly if your market requires it on a label.
What to ask any nettle supplier
- The botanical name of the batch, and the part used.
- The harvest year and the origin.
- For oil, the extraction method and the oil profile on the certificate.
- Moisture, foreign-matter and microbiological results relevant to your market.
- Private-label packaging options and minimums.
Our earlier note on nettle seed goes into more depth on that form.
