Sea Buckthorn Oil for Cosmetic and Nutraceutical Formulators: Buying Notes

November 1, 2026  ·  Himalayan Region

A short buyer's note on sea buckthorn berry oil: which questions to ask, what to expect in a sample, and how a small first order is set up.

Himalayan Region™, a B2B sourcing company in Dehradun, Uttarakhand supplies sea buckthorn berry oil to cosmetic brands and nutraceutical formulators. This note covers what a formulator should ask before a first order, in the order the questions usually come up.

Start with the botanical name and the part of the plant

Sea buckthorn is Hippophae rhamnoides. The fruit pulp and the seed give different oils, and buyers sometimes use "sea buckthorn oil" for both. Ask the supplier to write down which one is in the sample and which part of the plant it comes from. Himalayan Region™ lists its cosmetic-grade berry oil with a minimum order of 5 litres, which suits a pilot batch before a larger commitment.

Where the berries come from

The berries are wild-harvested on high Himalayan slopes and gathered by women-led Self-Help Groups in Uttarakhand villages. We confirm availability per enquiry because the harvest is short and depends on the season. If you need a named village or harvest year on the paperwork, say so at the start and we will tell you what we can document for that lot.

What a sample should come with

  • A batch number that matches the document you receive
  • A Certificate of Analysis for that batch, not a generic data sheet
  • The extraction method and the storage advice
  • Packaging details: container material, fill volume, and how it is sealed for transit

Registrations such as FSSAI are kept as documents on request. We do not publish certificate numbers on the open web.

Cosmetic or nutraceutical: say which

The two uses have different rules in different markets, and the same oil may need different paperwork. Tell us the destination country and the product category when you write, so the right documents are prepared. We make no health or treatment claims about our products, and a formulator should check the claims allowed in their own market.

A realistic first order

  1. Write with your use, destination and rough yearly volume.
  2. Receive a sample (free with a serious wholesale enquiry; the buyer covers shipping).
  3. Test it in your own lab.
  4. Confirm the specification and the first lot size, starting from the 5-litre minimum.
